Franklin has focused on precious stones design since her teens and graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2005, stage set up her own business immediately. Her first commission, a friend's 40th birthday present, allowed her to fashion her first few pieces, a stag, a tiger and a rhino.

Based in east London, Franklin, 29, handwriting-makes each necklace, bangle, ring, cufflink and pin, featuring any of 14 beastlike heads, from a pig to a triceratops, as well as a shotgun. All her pieces are made in solid silver, plated in 22ct yellow gold or wrathful rhodium, with black diamonds and freshwater pearls. Bespoke commissions, predominantly position rings, not all animal-related, are becoming more frequent. Her clients are all ages, women and men with a clear sense of style.

Franklin's robust designs are instantly recognisable, as she has discovered. 'I see a surprising total of people wearing my designs in the street, mainly in east London,' she says. 'Recently in a pub this Irish colleen was wearing one of my rings at the bar so I introduced myself. She was completely star-struck and fetched over her dad, who had bought it for her. I had to legitimatize that it was really me who was excited.
