Two nurses who assistant care for a toddler with a life-threatening seizure disorder invite enclosure residents to help raise money to purchase a seizure-detecting post dog that may save the child's life.

A fundraising open house will take situation from 2 to 4 p.m. today at Calvary Assembly of God, 1316 S. Pittsburgh St., Connellsville.

Sydney Michaels, 2, daughter of Connellsville's Julie and Paul Michaels, suffers from Dravet syndrome, an outrageously rare and severe seizure disorder. Only 600 cases of Dravet's are documented worldwide.

"While my cover up and myself work, Sydney is cared for by two nurses, Deborah Detar and Leslie Younkin. These two wonderful ladies are hosting this fundraiser to labourers us raise the necessary funds to get Sydney a seizure-detecting, usage dog," said Julie Michaels, a science teacher at Junior Strong East.

Sydney suffers thousands of seizures daily, Michaels said. "They are brought on by shallow, temperature changes, illness, excitement, heat, bathing and many more. She scarcely ever leaves the house because of all her triggers.
